6 Schemes of Modi Government that have Traction in Telangana

Telangana Election Modi Govt

The state of Telangana is going to polls on December 07, 2018. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in state election rallies has spoken eminently about various central government schemes that have brought huge development in the state. Here we present to you some of the schemes of central government along with statistics.

Banking for All

In the last 4 years, India has seen a revolution in terms of providing banking facility for the previously unbanked poor people of the country. Under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, more than 30 crore people have been provided with the bank accounts in the country. Of these, almost 92.72 lakh accounts are from Telangana, opened with 1,373 crore as deposits in these accounts. This also suggests that about 30% population of the state (with a total population of about 3.5 crore as per the census 2011) has got ‘Access to Banking’ in just one stroke by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This definitely makes a case for his huge popularity.

LPG Gas Connection to All

Since the launch of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in Telangana in April 2018, in a short period of 8 months only, more than 5.13 lakh families have already been provided with the LPG connection. This has helped poor families and women overcome the issues related to indoor pollution, which is the main reason behind the death of 13 lakh people in India every year.

Electricity to Every Household

Telangana has achieved 100% household electrification due to the successful implementation of Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana  (Saubhagya). The Modi Government has helped in the electrification of more than 4.24 lakh households in the last one year and importantly many of them are located in remote and inaccessible areas.

Crop Insurance to Farmers

Telangana is known for agricultural distress which has risen partly due to the local climatic conditions and partly due to the absence of resolute state government policies. However, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana has been a boon in checking the increasing number of farmer suicides in the state. The number of insured farmers has increased over the years in the state. In the year 2016, about 9.73 lakh farmers enrolled for the scheme whereas in 2017, this number increased further to 10.77 lakh due to the attractive cost-effective premium rates being offered under the scheme.

Irrigation for Farmers

As explained above, the problem of agricultural distress gets further amplified due to the absence of reliable irrigation system and the lack of perennial rivers in the region like the northern part of the country. In this background, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the country assumes the special significance in the state of Telangana. Emphasizing on the Micro-Irrigation systems in the state, about 2.12 lakh hectare area has been brought under micro-irrigation coverage by the central government till 2018.

Credit to Micro-Enterprises

Telangana is a state known for its weavers and handicraft artisans. Getting loans to set up their own enterprises has always been a challenge for people, especially for the poor and vulnerable sections of society. With this vision, PM Modi had launched MUDRA scheme at the national level which has helped poor people not only in the state but in the entire country. A total number of MUDRA loan sanctioned till 2018 are about 20 lakh and amount of around Rs 16.7 thousand crore has already been disbursed in the state.

Conclusion

The numbers highlighted under these 6 programs mentioned above speak how various central government schemes have helped in accelerating development in the state. The sheer number of beneficiaries, like under the Jan Dhan Yojana (about 92 lakh), clearly support the fact that the fruits of development are reaching to the masses. It is due to these reasons that these schemes initiated by the Modi Government have been received very well in the state. Despite much resistance offered by the state government led by K. Chandrashekar Rao, against the roll-out of many central government schemes (recently seen in the case of Ayushman Bharat), persistent efforts by the Modi government are bringing-in the development to the doorstep of the people.
