As announced by PM Modi on various occasions before, free of costs vaccination has been made available for all above the age of 18 from 21st of June. On this day India administered a record 86 lakh doses surpassing the previous record of 43 lakh in April by 2 times. This is equivalent to vaccinating the entire population of Israel in a single day or vaccinating the entire population of New Zealand twice over in single day.
Today’s record-breaking vaccination numbers are gladdening. The vaccine remains our strongest weapon to fight COVID-19. Congratulations to those who got vaccinated and kudos to all the front-line warriors working hard to ensure so many citizens got the vaccine.
Well done India!

Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka Top the Chart
Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka vaccinated people in record numbers by administering 15 lakh (1.5 million) and 10 lakh (1 million doses) respectively just on 21st of June. In fact out of the 86 lakh doses administered yesterday almost 50% of the doses were delivered by just 5 states- Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana.
As this report in CNN News18 pointed out, top 5 states are all ruled by BJP led state governments and 70% of all doses administered yesterday were by NDA ruled states.
As per this report, Madhya Pradesh was able to achieve the record 15 lakh vaccinations by setting up 8,000 vaccination centres for the mega exercise. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan himself visited vaccination centres in three districts of Datia, Bhopal and Sehore on 21st of June after conducting a virtual dialogue with citizens over the last one week motivating them to get themselves vaccinated. Madhya Pradesh has set a target of 10 lakh vaccinations every day.
Out of the 86 lakh doses administered yesterday, whopping 78.37 lakh were first doses showing the expanding footprint of the vaccination drive. Over 55 lakh jabs were administered to the 18-44 age category yesterday indicating that the young queued up for vaccinations in big numbers as the supplies for them have improved.
28.5 Crore Doses Administered till Now
28.5 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered as of 12.30 PM, 22nd June, 2021. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka have administered maximum doses till now.
More than 2.14 crore COVID vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered as of as of 10.45 AM on 22nd June ,2021 with more than 33.80 lakh vaccine doses in the pipeline and will be received by the States/UTs within the next 3 days.
NITI Aayog member Dr V.K Paul said that such large vaccination numbers in single day demonstrate India’s ability to carry out vaccination on massive scale for days and weeks together and added that all this was possible because of meticulous planning and coordination between the Central and State Governments. This task was being undertaken in mission mode.
Chairperson, National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation in India (NTAGI), Dr. N. K. Arora added that India has developed the capacity to administer 1.25 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine every day.
The government added that during the month of May, more than 7.9 crore vaccines were available for the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination exercise. These were ramped up to 11.78 crore in June.
Statement also mentioned that States were provided advance visibility of the vaccine doses available to them in the month of June 2021 by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This advance information enabled the States to prepare district-wise and COVID Vaccination Centre (CVC) wise vaccine distribution plans in an effective manner. This facilitated a massive ramping up of the vaccine administration across the country.
By careful planning and coordination, the Modi Government has enabled the state governments to vaccinate Indians with scale and speed.
