Reservation Bill Passed

In one of our earlier articles, we explained as to how the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the 124th constitutional amendment bill in Lok Sabha on January 08, 2019 that provides reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) among general category. It is not even a day since then that Rajya Sabha has also passed the 124th constitutional amendment bill on January 09, 2018. Thus, the bill providing the reservation to EWS stands passed through the Parliament. With its passage, it now only needs to be consented by the President of India before it becomes the statute. In the case of constitutional amendment bills, conventionally, President of India gives the consent.

It is not only historic in the sense that it provides reservation for economically weaker sections of society but also the pace at which this decision has been delivered. Constitutional amendment bills are generally not passed so quickly. On this historic occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted the following.

In another tweet, he hailed the passage of the bill as the victory for the social justice. He further said that it ensures a wider canvas for our Yuva Shakti to showcase their prowess and contribute towards India’s transformation.

Poverty is the worst form of disability that takes away the chances of many youths from attending higher educational institutions or shaping their career in civil services. This bill gives them a chance to have a level playing field. New India is not only growing fast but also taking everyone along.
