Often the election analysis in the media is done considering various caste-community equations and counting on the traditional support groups of each of the political parties involved in the fray. But the development which actually touches the lives of common people has the potential of transcending all the caste and traditional parameters, and that is perhaps an important factor in the poll-bound Rajasthan. To put it briefly, the schemes which have been initiated by the BJP Government, both at Centre and in the State, have almost covered each and every family. When one is getting a house allocated under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), or a member of another family is benefited from UJJWALA Yojana, or another Rajasthan’s family member becomes a beneficiary of the State Government’s Bhamashah Swasthya Bima Yojana. It appears that various government schemes running in Rajasthan are making all the difference this time.
We have already explained the path of progress the state is pursuing under the BJP Government in our earlier article.
The Broad Coverage
The below infographic gives a broad picture as to how various government schemes are touching the lives of Rajasthani people in one way or the other.
Government Schemes - Touching the Lives of Rajasthani People
Lives of Women
There are many numbers mentioned in the above graph. But let us see how these numbers have brought a real change in the life of a common man. Rajasthan achieving 100% sanitation coverage from a mere 29.74% in October 2014 essentially means that a large number of Rajasthani women got liberated from undignified circumstances arising due to open defecation in this 4-year period.
More than 40 lakh BPL women getting LPG connection under Pradhan Mantri UJJWALA Yojana means that these many women and their families got rid of death and disease caused by indoor air pollution. Women who were forced to spend most of their time collecting firewood can now spend their time more productively and in the way they want.
Rajasthan State Government has implemented Mukyamantri Rajshree Yojana on June 1, 2016, under which monetary benefits are being provided to the girl child at various stages of life, that is, from birth to 12th class. Since its inception, an amount of Rs 396 crore has already been spent under the scheme.
It should be noted that in the Bhamashah model, Rajasthan State Government has chosen Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), women are being considered as the Head of the family and the money is transferred directly into her bank account.
How the Rural People are Being Covered
Construction of 13,000 km rural roads post-2014 under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana has resulted in the ease of connectivity between rural Rajasthan and markets, be it for artisans or for farmers. It has also paved a way for easy access to health and education for the rural people. This has been coupled with the state government’s effort of connecting all the 9,894 Gram Panchayats with Gramin Gaurav Path scheme. The cemented road construction has already been completed in 6,160 Gram Panchayats.
More than 4 lakh families have been allocated houses under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin. A transforming effort by the Rajasthan State Government in the last four years has been in water conservation front. Under Mukyamantri Jal Swavalamban Abhiyan more than 4 lakh water conservation structures have been built in 12 thousand villages. The scheme has evolved into a people’s movement in which traditional water sources are being rejuvenated at a very fast pace.
Issues related to rural people who have got involved in some legal hassles are generally ignored by the Government. This particularly results in complicating their lives and wasting their already limited resources. In this regard, the Rajasthan government has eased the lives of people with its innovative programme, Nyaay Aapke Dwar (Justice to Doorstep) that has resolved around 1 crore revenue related issues by organizing more than 58,000 camps since 2015.
Touching Lives Across the Spectrum
Rajasthan’s Bhamashah Yojana has made lives of people easier and hassle-free, through bringing in transparency into the administration. As many as 54 schemes have come under this umbrella scheme in which money is being directly deposited into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
As many as 55,000 e-Mitra centers have been opened that has eased the lives of people by providing them a single platform for their varied needs, such as paying utility bills, obtaining certificates etc.
Annapoorna Rasoi has been started by the Rajasthan Government, which is providing cheap breakfast and meals for the urban poor people like Autowalas, rickshaw pullers, workers, students, elderly etc. Cost of breakfast is just Rs 5 and a meal costs Rs 8 only, which is served daily through 500 meal vans.
Conclusion - Schemes Appeals to All the Sections of the Society
A Rajasthani family is being benefited by one or the other government schemes. These government schemes have been touching the lives of people on the ground. Apparently, this will be an important deciding factor when people go to vote on December 7, 2018.
