PM Modi started his speech with his thoughts for the countrymen who are suffering from the floods.
People in many parts of countries are facing hardships due to heavy rains. We stand in complete solidarity with those affected by the floods and I assure that all possible support that is needed will be provided to them. State governments, NDRF, and other institutions are trying to reduce the hardships.
His speech steered the nation once again towards hope and confidence. He narrated the journey of India in the recent past from pessimism to enthusiasm. Here are the key takeaways from his speech.
Modi 2.0 - Important decisions
It has been under ten weeks since the new Government was formed but several path-breaking decisions have been taken. This includes decisions for Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, the end of Triple Talaq, steps for the welfare of farmers and small traders.
A separate Jal Shakti ministry has been formed to tackle the water crisis.
To improve medical education and increase the number of doctors, steps are being taken.
This is the time to think about the India of the 21st century and how the dreams of the people will be fulfilled.
From fulfilling needs to aspirations
The period from 2014 to 2019 was to fulfill the needs of the people. The period from 2019 to 2024 is to achieve the aspirations of new India.
From despair to hope, India came a long way in the last 5 years. People’s belief to transform their country has strengthened.
We have to think about solutions to the problems people face. Yes, there will be obstacles on the way but we have to work to overcome them. Remember how scared the Muslim women were, who suffered due to Triple Talaq but we ended the practice.
Ending the invisible wall of article 370
We do not believe in creating problems or prolonging them. In less than 70 days of the new Government, Article 370 has become history, and in both Houses of Parliament, 2/3rd of the members supported this step. We want to serve Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh.
We have also moved forward towards the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir. Every government in the last 70 years have contributed their bit towards the development of the region.
Dalits and tribal didn’t get their rights in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. People who took refuge in Jammu and Kashmir didn’t get their rights. After this decision, they will get their dues.
There are some people in the political corridors who advocate the continuation of article 370. The country is asking them if article 370 was to benefit the people of Jammu and Kashmir, why didn’t they convert this temporary provision into a permanent provision? Because they also knew that this article 370 was a mistake but didn’t have the courage to correct the mistake.
New India’s march for a better future
In recent times, there have been many steps that contribute to the unity of the country. One nation and one constitution, one nation and one tax, one nation and one grid, one nation and one mobility card are being ensured. Now, the country is ready to discuss One nation and one election.
Many households in the country don’t get adequate drinking water. Work on the Jal Jeevan Mission will progress with great vigour in the years to come. The amount of more than Rs 3.5 lakh crore will be spent towards this objective. This water movement cannot become a mere government program. People from all walks of life have to be integrated into this movement.
Checking the population explosion
Population explosion in the country will have grave consequences for the coming generation. There is a small section in the country that keep a family small, thus contribute to the nation. We all should take inspiration from this small section. We should think before giving birth to children whether we will be able to give him a better future or not. And thus, we will have to check this population explosion.
Corruption se azadi
Corruption and nepotism have hampered our progress. They have become a chronic disease. Every effort made to remove corruption and black money is welcome. These are menaces that have ruined India for 70 long years. Let us always reward honesty.
Ease of living
The meaning of independent India is the government should not pressurize the citizens or unnecessarily interfere in their lives. I always ask- can we not remove the excess influence of Governments on people’s lives. Let our people have the freedom of pursuing their own aspirations, let the right eco-system be made in this regard.
Towards this aim of ease of living, the government has ended one outdated rule every day in the last 5 years.
India does not want incremental progress. A high jump is needed, our thought process has to be expanded. We have to keep in mind global best practices and build good systems.
For aspirational India, 100 lakh crores will be spent in the next 5 years on modern infrastructure.
People’s thinking has changed. Earlier, people were happy with merely a plan to make a railway station. Now people ask- when will Vande Bharat Express come to my area.
People do not want only good railway stations or bus stations, they ask- when is a good airport coming.
Earlier, a person who used to be happy with a pucca road in the village now asks when will the 4-lane road come.
Earlier the aspiration was to have a good mobile phone but now, people aspire better data speed. Times are changing and we have to accept that.
The dream of 5 trillion-dollar economy
5 trillion-dollar economy – if 130 crore people move a step ahead, the dream of 5 trillion-dollar economy is possible. 70 years after independence, we had reached 2 trillion-dollar economy. But in the last 5 years, we had added 1 trillion-dollar economy. Thus, it is possible to reach another milestone of 5 trillion.
Potential of Indian districts
Every district in India has the energy and potential to become an export hub. Every district is known for its unique products. We have to nurture their potential. Time has come to think about how we can boost exports. Each district of India has so much to offer. Let us make local products attractive so that many more export hubs emerge. Our guiding principle is Zero Defect, Zero Effect.
The local product needs to be focused on. Our priority should be a ‘Made in India’ product. Can we think of consuming local products, improving the rural economy and the MSME sector?
Wealth creators are India’s pride
Let us never see wealth creators with suspicion. If wealth is not created, it will not be distributed. If the wealth is not distributed, the benefits will not trickle down to the poor. Thus, wealth creators should get their due respect.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) – New announcement
India is proud of its armed forces. They also strive for their modernization. Army, Navy, and Airforce need to develop equally. The government will constitute a new post of Chief of Defence Staff which will give the leadership to all three wings of Indian armed forces. This will help in better coordination between the forces.
Single-use polythene se azadi
Prime Minister appealed to the people to reject the use of polythene. Can we free India from single-use plastic? The time for implementing such an idea has come. Teams can be mobilised to work in this direction. Let a significant step be made on 2nd October. We can take inspiration from Swachh Bharat movement. India will be able to announce itself open defecation free in coming days.
Appeal for digital payments
“डिजिटल पेमेंट को हां, नकद को ना” … Can we make this our motto? Let us further the use of digital payments all over the nation. I appeal to all shopkeepers to put a board on their shops asking people to make payments digitally.
Indian should explore India
India has much to offer. I know people travel abroad for holidays but can we think of visiting at least 15 tourist destinations across India before 2022, when we mark 75 years of freedom. This will help in developing tourist destinations.
