Lost in the din related to Delhi violence is a major breakthrough in Pulwama attack case by the security agency that perhaps does not got due attention in the popular discourse.
The National Investigating Agency (NIA) arrested a father-daughter duo for their alleged support in providing shelter to terrorists who carried Pulwama attack. The arrested were identified as Tariq Ahmed Shah, 50, a driver by profession, and his daughter Insha Jan, aged 23. According to NIA officials, Tariq had sheltered all the terrorists who had planned the attack. The terrorists from Pakistan, subsequently killed in encounter, Umar Farooq, an IED maker, Kamran, Ismail, and the local Jaish terrorist Sameer Ahmed Dar, stayed in this house.
Before the father-daughter duo, on February 28, 2020 the NIA had made another arrest related to Pulwama attack. A furniture shop owner from Pulwama was taken into custody on the charge of providing shelter and other logistical help to suicide-bomber Adil Ahmad Dar. It is said that he was introduced to Adil Ahmad Dar in mid-2018 by a Pakistani terrorist called Mohammad Umar Farooq, after which he became a full-time over-ground worker of JeM.

NIA- Meticulous Way of Working
A recent reply in the Lok Sabha shows that the performance of NIA is not just restricted to initial arrests and investigations. There has in fact been remarkable progress in securing convictions as well. This could only be possible when the agency builds the case with proper evidence.
The Lok Sabha reply says, “since its inception and till date, the Central Government has entrusted 319 cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation. Out of total cases registered, in 237 cases charge-sheets have been filed. Judgement has been pronounced in 62 cases in which, 56 cases have resulted in conviction. Total 276 persons have been convicted in these cases. The conviction rate is 90.32%.”
Foiling the Evil Designs of ISIS
While the dreaded global terrorist group ISIS has been trying to set its firm foots on Indian soil, it is the NIA which is majorly foiling their various bids. Especially, the NIA in recent days is actively working to foil the designs of ISIS sleeper cells and recruitment modules in the southern part of India. We have documented such efforts at length in our previous article NIA’s Relentless Pursuit in Busting Islamic State Module in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Recently in February 22, 2020 NIA conducted an extensive search in 10 locations of Tamil Nadu and 15 locations of Karnataka in ISIS related cases.
Institutions like the NIA, and their relentless duty behind the scenes is the reason behind India standing tall despite an all-out effort from the enemy forces to create terror, riots and all kind of havocs in the country.
