After the abrogation of article 370 by India, Pakistan tried to reach out to many countries across the world including the United States of America (USA) to build a narrative against India. But its tactics didn’t yield any fruitful outcomes.
There was also a perception that India will not raise the issue of Kashmir after the abrogation and it will downplay its decision. This is where people generally go wrong in predicting Prime Minister Modi.
At Howdy Modi event, PM Modi owned the India’s decision of abrogation of article 370 in the presence of President Trump. The Indian prime minister has also launched a veiled attack on Pakistan for its support to proxy terrorism. The strong statement from PM Modi shows that India is now asserting its decisions before the global community, something that has been missed by earlier administrations of the country.
Indian Prime Minister owns the abrogation of article 370 in the presence of President Trump
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India has given a farewell to article 370. This article 370 was misused by terror and separatist elements. It is this article which deprived people of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh of their rights. Now, after the abrogation, the Indian constitution has granted equal rights to people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh similar to what have already been given to citizens in rest of the country.
He further added, the people having a problem with the abrogation of article 370 are the same people who cannot govern their own country. These people are the ones who shield and nurture terrorism and the whole world knows them very well.
President Trump raises his voice against the ‘radical Islamic terror’ threat
“We are committed to protecting the innocent civilians from the threat of radical Islamic terrorism,” said the US president.
President Trump has also added that border security is vital to both India and the USA. This can be seen to be a subtle reference to India’s border with Pakistan and India’s decision to deport the illegal immigrants under National Register of Citizens (NRC).
India and USA come hard on Pakistan
Without naming Pakistan, both US President and Indian Prime Minister gave a clear signal that terrorism will no longer be tolerated. If the US President was particular about radical Islamic terrorism, Indian Prime Minister was particular about the origin of such terrorism – Pakistan.
This is a big diplomatic blow to Pakistan that PM Modi has not only asserted the decision of article 370 but also shamed it for its state-sponsored terror policy. You will remember before the decision of abrogation was announced, Pakistan was highlighting President Trump’s statement that he was ready to mediate. But, in less than 2 months’ time, PM Modi has not only abrogated the article 370 but has also announced it in clear terms before the world in the presence of US president.
This has completed the dehyphenation of India and Pakistan in US diplomatic circles.
