On October 29, 2018, Rahul Gandhi shared a Facebook post, having an article from Indian Express about girls in Sainik Schools, Mizoram. However, he shared, “…These girls at the Sainik School in Manipur are proof of this …” From this post, it seems that he does not know much about India’s North-Eastern States, and not even the names, otherwise what else could be a reason for such an ignorance.
However, after about an hour of posting it, this Facebook post was edited and corrected, but anyone can see the original post by clicking at the ‘View Edit History’ tab.
Just for your information, Mr Rahul Gandhi, there are 8 different states in North-Eastern India, namely Arunachal, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim, each bestowed with different cultures and traditions!
Rahul Gandhi not knowing the names of the North-Eastern States of India does not come as a shocker, as the whole region was thoroughly neglected during the UPA regime, i.e. from 2004 to 2014. As a result, the region fell behind economically, infrastructurally and generally in development.
However, since 2014, the region has started developing under the Modi Government. Over the last 4 years, the Centre has undertaken a slew of initiatives to bridge the great physical and psychological gap between India and the North-Eastern states, which you can read in our articles, ‘Embracing the Northeast’, ‘Destination Northeast: How a Historically Neglected Region is Being Embraced and Developed’. Maybe after reading these comprehensive articles, Mr Rahul Gandhi can keep himself informed and updated about what is going on in these 8 North-Eastern States, also called as ‘Ashta Lakshmi’ of India!
