With the inauguration of Integrated Check Post of the Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak, PM Modi has fulfiled a long-cherished dream as this will facilitate Indian pilgrims to visit Gurudwara Kartapur Sahib in Pakistan. This event coincides with the historic occasion of 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Devji.

करतारपुर से मिली गुरुवाणी की ऊर्जा, सिर्फ हमारे सिख भाई-बहनों को ही नहीं बल्कि हर भारतवासी को अपना आशीर्वाद देगी: PM @narendramodi

India signed the agreement with Pakistan on October 24, 2019, on the modalities for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor. In our earlier article we had explained how this project proposed by the then Vajpayee government is getting fulfilled under the Modi administration.
The Significance of Kartarpur Sahib
The founder of Sikhism and the first Guru of the Sikhs Guru Nanak Dev spent last 18 years of his life in Kartarpur Sahib that makes the place so sacred for the Indians.
If Only This Significance Known to Congress…
This revered place is within the five kms distance from the border between India and Pakistan. If only the Congress leaders at that time had shown the cultural sensibility and pressurized the British to keep Kartarpur Sahib in the Indian side, India might not be facing the difficulties it is facing now to ensure the pilgrimage to the sacred place.
PM Modi himself had expressed anguish in his public speeches on this issue. He said, “What could be more unfortunate is that for nearly 70 years since Independence, devotees had to use binoculars for ‘darshan’ of Gurdwara Kartapur Sahib across the border. those who were responsible for the Partition in 1947, didn’t they realise that just for a distance of four km, devotees had been kept away from the ‘Guru ghar’?… After this, in 70 years, shouldn’t the Congress governments have made efforts to eliminate this distance?”
Pakistan’s Foul Play
It is to the credit of the Modi government that the pilgrims to Kartarpur Sahib have been made possible. But because of the past mistake by the previous Indian political leadership at that time, Pakistan has got an opportunity to play with our emotions.
From collecting fees to tweaking the rules, Pakistan has played many misadventures in this process. Nevertheless, PM Modi on the occasion thanked the Pakistani side as well.
What the Indian Government Has Done
The Modi government has put in a lot of efforts to ensure that the long-cherished dream of pilgrimage to Kartarpur Sahib become a reality.
- It arrived at a framework agreement with Pakistan to facilitate the pilgrimage
- India constructed 4.2 Km four lane highway connecting Dera Baba Nanak from Amritsar – Gurdaspur Highway at a cost of Rs 120 Cr.
- Passenger Terminal Building which facilitates about 5000 pilgrims a day is built on 15 acres land with all the amenities.
- Robust security infrastructure is put in place with CCTV surveillance and public address systems.
Many long-waits have ended under this government, all resulting in bringing smiles to millions of people. The corridor to Kartarpur is one such historic moment.
