India Set to Defend Against Coronavirus

As the world is threatened by the spread of deadly coronavirus disease originated from China’s Wuhan, resulting in over 100 deaths, the Indian government has stepped up to secure itself besides chalking out ways to evacuate Indians who stuck in the virus inflicted nation.

Cabinet Secretary (relevant ministry) conducted a detailed review meeting on January 27 to assess the situation. Till date, 137 flights have been screened that amounts to the screening of total of 29,707 passengers.

According to the Ministry of Health, samples of 20 suspect passengers were referred to National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune.  No positive case has been reported so far.

A strict screening protocol has been also been set up at the integrated check posts across Nepal border.

PTI reports that mechanisms to screen entrants have also been put in place along the Indo-Myanmar border. The installed device just checks the body temperature of individual, which helps identify potential patients, who are then subject to further medical tests. Screening at the International ports having traffic from China has been in place.

Possible Evacuation of Indians From Wuhan

It was also decided in the review meeting that steps may be initiated to prepare for a possible evacuation of Indian nationals in Wuhan.

The Economic Times reports that Ministry of External Affairs will be making a request to China to make way for the possible evacuation of Indian nationals from Wuhan. It is also reported that the Indian Embassy in Beijing has put out posts on social media asking the Indian nationals in and around Wuhan to mark their location.

A 24×7 helpline is put in place for any clinical query connected to the disease.
