PM Modi Forces China to Climb Down on Masood Azhar

In a major diplomatic and strategic win for India, China has been made to lift its hold on a proposal that stopped United Nations (UN) from declaring Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. India, for some time, has been pushing the UN to declare him a global terrorist. China had stopped this by putting ‘technical hold’ at a proposal initiated by the United States, the United Kingdom and France.

This is another testimony to the fact that India’s diplomatic clout has grown to the level where all major countries in the world have been made to agree with its uncompromising stand on terrorism emanating from Pakistani soil. Remember? When India conducted surgical strike and air strikes after terror attacks on Indian soil, major countries of the world had rallied behind India. This also reflects the growing isolation of Pakistan as even its closest ally China couldn’t resist India’s diplomatic initiative and was forced to toe India’s line.

Syed Akbaruddin, India’s Ambassador & Permanent Representative to United Nations has now tweeted the following.

It is to be noted that JeM has been responsible for many terror attacks on India soil including the recent Pulwama attack. In order to take a pre-emptive non-military action, India had launched an unprecedented air strike right inside the Pakistan’s territory at Balakot. This air strike destroyed the main training camp of JeM at Balakot.

Due to its proximity to Pakistan, China has been shielding the JeM chief. The current lifting of hold on the proposal by China further proves the growing influence of India under the leadership of PM Modi.

However, a section of peaceniks in India which always doubts the capabilities of Indian armed forces, had also criticised PM Modi for not being able to get JeM chief declared as global terrorists. In fact, Congress President Rahul Gandhi attacked PM Modi, accusing him of being scared of China.

Here is what National Conference leader Omar Abdullah had said,

This is not the first time when India under PM Modi has pressurised China to agree to India’s stand. Even in the past, a military stand-off between India and China at Doklam ended after the mutual decision of pulling their troops back.

Therefore, the leaders like Congress President who jump the gun to shame and attack India’s elected PM doesn’t seem to have any interest in national security but only in petty politics.
