As India under lockdown puts up a great fight against COVID-19, there are some best practices emerging across the nation that are truly inspiring. The daily press brief by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has noted some of the best practices from time to time. NITI Aayog has also acknowledged some inspirational measures undertaken especially in some aspirational districts.
Though it is not an exhaustive list of examples, let’s see some of those instances that may energise us.
- Karnal district is showcasing ‘Adopt a Family Program’. The people of Karnal, industry, and those living abroad, etc., have contributed generously to adopt needy families in Karnal contributing donations up to ₹64 lakhs to take care of 13,000 poorest families throughout the district. Efforts are also being made to distribute 90,000 meals per day to vulnerable groups. Technology such as a dedicated ‘Karnal Live Tracker’ to track home quarantines and also an online local delivery app- Need on Wheels (NOW) have been facilitated by the local District Administration to procure vegetable/fruit wholesalers & dairies.
- In Lucknow district, efforts have been made to use hotels to serve as the quarantine centres. This has been covered by the media as well.
- Pune district sealed the central region of Pune and Kondhwa area effectively and carried out door-to-door survey of homes located across 35 sq. km area. The team has also checked for persons with co-morbidity like Diabetes and Hypertension apart from travel history and contact tracing. Some citizens initiatives have also been highlighted by the media.
- Pathanamthitta district ensured surveillance, gathering travel history, contact tracing, ensuring quarantine facilities and providing essential & psychological support.
Quoted below are some examples highlighted by NITI Aayog through their social media handle. These include the examples of disinfectant tunnel to proper handling of PDS.
