Ayodhya Verdict – Look Who Set the Example of Restraint

Ayodhya verdict was finally delivered today. It ordered to hand over the disputed land to Hindus for the construction of the Ram temple. It is a cause for which the BJP had rallied for. Yet, before and after the verdict, the party has set an example by showing immense restraint.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top government functionaries have taken several steps to ensure peaceful and harmonious atmosphere prevails in the country post the judgement. PM Modi has also been issuing statements at regular interval asking fellow countrymen to respect the judgment of the Supreme Court and maintain peace and communal harmony in the country.

Security on High Alert Across the Country

Central and UP Government have taken several security precautions to ensure no untoward incident happens.

  • Apart from the regular security at the Ayodhya, the Centre has rushed in 4000 paramilitary personnel and 30 bomb squads. All dharamshalas have been instructed to shut down and all non-locals have been asked to leave the city.
  • Prohibitory orders have placed in several places across Uttar Pradesh and in sensitive areas of several other states like Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra
  • Holidays were declared for schools and colleges in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and several other major cities
  • Railway Protection Force has cancelled leaves of all of its personnel and increased security in 78 railway stations
Continuous Statements of Peace and Harmony

The Prime Minister and several other top functionaries of the government have been issuing statements at regular intervals asking people on all sides to respect the verdict of the Supreme Court and maintain communal harmony.

In his Mann Ki Baat delivered in October this year, PM modi issued a remainder to maintain peace and amity. He also praised political parties and civil society for the mature role they played after the Allahabad High Court verdict which had come out in 2010. Rebuking the loudmouths who had sought to polarise the situation after the high court verdict, PM lauded the role played by social organisations, political parties, saints, seers and leaders of all faiths in furthering unity on that day.

Discussing the issue at a meeting of Council of Ministers, PM Modi had also advised the ministers not to make any provocative statements and maintain peace and amity. A day ahead of the verdict PM Modi once again tweeted asking for people to respect the judgment of the Supreme Court and maintain peace and harmony.

BJP had also advised its spokesperson and party men to exercise restraint and not make any emotive statements. It also asked the MP’s to visit their respective constituencies to maintain calm there.

Top Political leaders like Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, UP chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Ex CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also made similar statements asking for peace and unity.

When the verdict came PM Modi and the Home Minister have appreciated the calmness of people.

There are many instances in which a section of people seen preaching lessons of tolerance to the government. The people in power just showed how to practice tolerance in reality.
