December 25 marks the birthday of the former Prime Minister late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The True Picture researched about common media headlines in the Vajpayee era and the PM Modi era today, on various topics on which their respective governments were under attack by the Congress Party. We found a surprising pattern emerging out of this research – the Vajpayee Government between 1999 and 2004 and the Modi Government between 2014 and 2018 were attacked by the Congress Party on almost every step, development project undertaken by the government in an eerily similar pattern.
Let us see how the Congress eco-system has pushed a negative narrative on some of the major issues in the Vajpayee era and the same false narrative is being repeated against the Modi Government today.
Congress eco-system weaved a fake narrative in which BJP rule was equated with communal violence whereas the facts firmly state that the country had witnessed major communal violence under the Congress rule. See the narratives and the headlines below:
The ‘jobless growth’ theory has been attributed by the Congress eco-system for both the Vajpayee Government and the present Modi Government. However, the fact is that it has been proven that the Vajpayee era added 6 crore jobs as compared to 1.7 crore jobs created during the UPA II innings. In the present Modi administration also, the EPFO data, boom in infrastructure, creation of highways, inland waterways, retail and manufacturing give us a fairly positive picture of constant adding up of jobs in the market. Nevertheless, Congress’ fake narrative is as below:
‘Pro-rich, Anti-poor’ Narrative
Various development initiatives undertaken during the Vajpayee Government and in the Modi Government led to the reduction of poverty across the country. Despite the fact that it was the UPA Government that allowed corporate lobbyists to power corridors, creation of bad loans; and it is actually the Modi Government who has been effectively cleaning up the NPA mess with the measures like IBC, Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, Benami Property Act etc. Congress eco-system still continued to push the ‘Pro-rich-Anti-poor’ narrative against the present government, as it did against the Vajpayee Government.
Saffronisation of Education/ RSS Encroachment
Though the fact remains that it was the UPA government which took the orders from Sonia Gandhi-led group of unelected NAC members, Congress Party attacked BJP several times with the RSS jibe. This hue and cry were the same during the Vajpayee era as is today against the present Modi rule.
The Agrarian Distress
Even to this day, people remember how the Vajpayee Government connected the rural areas with the landmark Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadhak Yojana. Farmers distress was comparatively high during the Congress rule. Modi Government’s financial inclusion measures, direct benefit transfer, assets creation under MGNREGA, rural housing, roads, market connection for agriculture products, crop insurance and irrigation schemes etc., have helped farmers and the rural economy like never before. However, the Congress Party have continued to spread the same malicious propaganda against the Modi Government here as well.
Notwithstanding various development measures adopted by both NDA I under Vajpayee and the present NDA II under PM Narendra Modi, Congress Party has constantly pushed the baseless narrative that the BJP Government is anti-Dalit, just for the sake of it.
During the Vajpayee era, Congress invented the unfounded ‘Coffin Scam’, and now the same Congress Party has been constantly weaving the same negative narrative with regard to the Rafale deal. In both the instances, the Supreme Court has dismissed the scam allegation.
Running Down the Development Work
Creating a constant blockade to the development work and picking up a negative narrative even when the nation is witnessing substantial progress in various aspects – has been a constantly running theme by the Congress Party. This was employed against both the Vajpayee Government as well as the Modi Government.
Ridiculing Nation’s Morale and Military Capability
Recent efforts of the Congress Party in creating doubt over surgical strikes are fresh in the public memory. Even during the Vajpayee regime Congress eco-system had spread similar lies and saw the Kargil victory in a political prism.
People fondly remember governance under the Vajpayee administration even today. There is ample evidence across various sectors that the Modi Government has been expanding the Vajpayee governance model to a larger scale. However, the Congress eco-system, as exhibited above, is busy weaving the same negative narrative and lies against the Modi Government’s development journey as they did to the former PM Vajpayee back then.
