The vaccination drive has been ramped up through availability of more vaccines, advance visibility of vaccine availability to States and UTs for enabling better planning by them, and streamlining the vaccine supply chain.
More than 58.76 crore free of cost vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far. Further, more than 1.03 crore doses are in the pipeline as of 10 AM, 26th August, 2021.
More than 3.77 crore balance and unutilized COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered ensuring adequate stockpile with them. Out of 60.84 crore doses administered, 47 crore have received one dose and 13 crore have received 2 doses.
Uttar Pradesh has also become the first state to administer more than 6 crore doses and with 6.63 crore doses administered, it is far ahead of the second in line, Maharashtra with 5.5 crore doses.

Zydus Cadilla-4th Vaccine to Receive UEA
Indigenously developed Zydus Cadila COVID-19 vaccine ZyCoV-D has received approval for emergency use from the Drug Controller General of India and it will be the first vaccine to be administered to people 12 years and above in India. With this, 2 indigenously developed and manufactured vaccines namely COVAXIN and ZyCoV-D will set to be administered in India. Russian-made Sputnik along with made in India – COVISHIELD, are also being administered in India.
Zydus Cadilla is also the world’s first DNA vaccine which when injected produces the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and elicits an immune response, which plays a vital role in protection from the disease as well as viral clearance.
The “plug-and-play” technology on which the plasmid DNA platform is based can be easily adapted to deal with mutations in the virus, such as those already occurring.
Few interesting data points reveal the massive speed and scale with which vaccine drive has been expanded in India.
Number of days it took to administer 10 crore doses has decreased from 85 days for first 10 crore to just 19 days now (between 50 crore and 60 crore).
India has also administered more vaccines than US, UK, France and Canada combined. Not too long-ago Indians would have to wait for years for medicines and vaccines to reach our country. But now India is at the forefront of delivering vaccines to Indians first and fast.
